The West Carrollton City School District is mourning the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Kelly Seputis, a deeply cherished teacher, colleague, and friend, who passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025.
Mrs. Seputis, who most recently taught 6th Grade Language Arts at West Carrollton Intermediate School, was known for her unwavering dedication to students and her joyful, nurturing spirit. Over the years, she made an incredible impact on hundreds of lives, both in the classroom and among her peers.
In an official statement, the district shared:
“It is with deep sorrow that the West Carrollton School District announces the loss of a beloved educator, Kelly Seputis. She touched the lives of countless students and was a treasured colleague and compassionate friend.”
To honor her memory, staff and students are encouraged to wear green—Mrs. Seputis’s favorite color—on Monday, May 19. The district will also have grief counselors available at school to help students and staff cope with the tragic loss.
Mrs. Seputis had previously taught at West Carrollton Middle School before moving to the Intermediate School. Her warmth, passion for education, and kindness were felt deeply throughout the district.
Those who knew her personally have begun sharing heartfelt tributes.
Her brother-in-law, Doug Landwehr, wrote:
“Kelly will be greatly missed by family and friends. I’m so proud that I have been able to not only call you my sister-in-law, but also a true friend. Till we meet again. Love you!”
Fellow educator Emily Knox shared her grief:
“Kelly was part of the very first team to welcome me to West Carrollton Middle School. She had a light about her—genuine, joyful, and rooted in love—that reminded me of God’s grace in everyday moments.”
Kelly Seputis is survived by her husband and their two beloved children—a son and a daughter. Her love for family and education was the foundation of her life, and her presence will be deeply missed in both the school and broader West Carrollton community.
