Ava Lodico Car Accident and Obituary, Falmouth HS Student Died On Prom Night

A heartbreaking tragedy struck the Falmouth community over the weekend as Ava Lodico, an 18-year-old senior at Falmouth High School, lost her life in a devastating car crash late Saturday night, during what should have been one of the most memorable nights of her life — prom night.

According to a press release from the Falmouth Police and Fire Departments, the crash occurred around 10:58 p.m. on Acapesket Road near Caseys Way. Ava, the sole occupant of a white Range Rover SUV, reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which then crashed into nearby trees and caught fire. First responders arrived quickly on the scene, extinguished the flames, and managed to free her from the wreckage. She was transported to Falmouth Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Authorities confirmed that Ava was alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash. As of Sunday afternoon, the cause of the accident remained under investigation. The Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council’s Accident Reconstruction Team and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation are assisting the Falmouth Police Department in piecing together the circumstances of the fatal collision.

Ava Lodico was widely known and admired within the Falmouth High School community. Just days before the accident, she was recognized on the school’s Honor Roll for the third quarter — a testament to her academic dedication and bright future. Her sudden death has sent waves of grief through her classmates, teachers, and the wider Falmouth community.

In response to the tragedy, counseling services were made available to students and staff at the Falmouth High School library on Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. Additional support will continue throughout the week. In a joint statement, Police Deputy Chief Brian Loewen, Fire Deputy Chief Chad Absten, and Superintendent Lori Duerr said:
“Our hearts go out to the family, friends, and loved ones of this bright young student. This loss is being deeply felt throughout our school and town. We are doing all we can to support our community during this difficult time.”

Video footage from the crash scene revealed the extent of the impact — the SUV sustained heavy damage to the driver’s side, bumper, and roof. Investigators have not yet determined the speed or potential contributing factors that led to the crash.
